Starting at a young age I have worked with disadvantage youth. As a teenager I would go to a local youth home and spend time with the kids there. I had the opportunity to talk about their problem and would try to help them through it. I then would encourage them to do better in their lives.

My family members all work in law enforcement. I have a brother who is a state police officer, another who is the jailer and his wife is the judge’s secretary. I have another brother who is a security guard at a juvenile prison. My wife and I have fostered several different kids. We have been involved with life changing opportunities for both them and our selves. We feel that as they achieved goals they gain self-confidence and learn self-mastery.

For the past 20 years I have volunteered my time with youth programs. I have supervised as a mentor leader these groups and helped young people learn valuable skill in organizing their activities, camp outs, and community service projects. Such opportunities allow young people to take ownership in their responsibilities and roles. Youth leadership helps young individuals to plan, carry out and accomplish personal goals. Part of my responsibility rest in teaching youth on how to problem solve, how to resolve interpersonal and relational conflicts, and to learn respect for differences between themselves and others.

My volunteer service includes a six year working relationship with the Newberg Area Habitat for Humanity. I served on the building committee. I have helped in the construction of eight homes for families in need. I bring additional skills outside of my work with youth to Journeys Quest which includes an associate’s degree in electrical, an electrical engineer journeyman, and the layout, design support beams, columns, bridge girders and other complex structural members for construction projects. These skills will allow me to work with youth on their Basic Life Skills intervention on such projects as those designed by Journey’s Quest life skills program.

I have held positions of management that involve complex planning, supervision, and problem solutions. I understand that for you as the parent and your youth, the importance of clear communication. I have also worked within disciplinary and advancement council meetings to help individuals address and resolve issues, identify areas of needed growth and celebration of their gains by making rank advancements.

Additionally, I have taught different classes from Intro to Blueprint Reading to Blueprint Reading III. I also taught Intro to Layout and Fit Up and Template Making. I taught for six years and have been responsible for curriculum development.

In my personal life I enjoy golf, baseball, photography and building things with my hands.  I love to be with my family. Seeing the successes that my children are having in their lives brings me great joy, happiness and satisfaction. My greatest joy is my wife and the relationship that we have with each other.
